Last night on a stunning Sydney evening Flying Fish Restaurant + Bar marked a stellar decade as one of Sydney’s most impressive seafood dining experiences. Over 400 guests were invited to celebrate the amazing food, cuisine and success of the opulent hidden restaurant in Pyrmont.
Located at the harbor edge on historic Jones Bay Wharf in Pyrmont, Flying Fish Restaurant + Bar is a remarkable dining destination in Sydney. The combination of interesting and exciting food, attentive service, spectacular harbour views and a beautiful mix of sophisticated and rustic interiors which evoke the site’s rich industrial-maritime past, have proven to be a formula of success for this family-owned restaurant.
Guests were treated to Veuve Clicquot champagne, Belvedere cocktails, Martini Espressos and more cheese than you can imagine. Canapes circulated the venue at a great pace and guests lapped up the squid ink croquettes, prawn skewers and chicken bites.
In addition to the amazing party, to celebrate this milestone, Flying Fish will host a month-long celebration featuring inspired food experiences and nostalgic menus.
The Flying Fish Restaurant + Bar celebrations will run from Friday 1st through to Sunday 31st August with highlights including:
- Flying Fish: A Nod to Nostalgia – menu will change weekly and be available throughout August alongside the a la carte menu
Step back in time with a nostalgic menu of ‘greatest hits’ from the past decade. Executive Chef Stephen Seckold has delved into the archives, as far back as when he first joined in 2004, to create a celebratory menu that will change weekly and showcase the highlights of past and present Flying Fish menus.
- A Tasmania Truffle Trip – Thursday 7 August, bookings from 6pm, $120 per person or $165 per person with matched wines
Executive Chef Stephen Seckold together with Duncan Garvey from Perigord Truffles, a pioneer of the French truffle in Australia, host an exquisite six-course degustation dinner.
- Flying Fish: Freestyle - Sunday 31 August, bookings from 6pm, $100 per person
A homage to Seckold’s time as Chef De Partie under Bjorn van der Horst at La Noisette (London), a Michelin-starred restaurant opened by Gordon Ramsay in 2007. The restaurant didn’t follow any traditional cooking guidelines; instead, chefs cooked freestyle with no menus and no diners eating the same dishes. Seckold and his team will put themselves under the same immense pressure at Flying Fish and produce a truly unforgettable dining experience.
Of reaching the 10-year milestone, Seckold says the entire team at Flying Fish Restaurant + Bar is incredibly proud and already looking ahead to the next 10 years.
“Reaching a decade, in what many recognise as a challenging restaurant climate, is no easy feat so we’re extremely grateful to all those who have dined at and supported Flying Fish Restaurant over the past 10 years. This celebration also provides an opportunity to shine the spotlight on our incredible staff, both past and present, and their ability to consistently deliver an incredible dining experience.”
Seckold, along with Head Chef Ian Royle, has been at the helm of Flying Fish Restaurant’s kitchen since 2011 and together they deliver an evolving menu that is progressive and surprising. Complementing the main kitchen’s dishes and rounding out the Asian-inspired seafood focus is the lively open Raw Bar, headed up by Sushi Chef Taji Mita, which delivers the freshest, highest quality sushi and sashimi, prepared to order and with flair.
Wine is a also clear focus at Flying Fish Restaurant + Bar; more than 550 hand-selected wines feature on the menu and an impressive 750 bottles of red wine are on display, suspended on a six-metre wide Thai silk in the private dining room.
A memorable dining experience, Flying Fish is a must-do for Sydneysiders and visitors alike.
